Active Release Techniques (ART)
Treatment at The Training Room is provided by Dr. Phil Davis, PT, DPT, CSCS, a Navy veteran with nearly 30 years of experience, a USC graduate trained in Active Release Techniques, and faculty in the USAHS Doctor of Physical Therapy program.
Active Release Techniques is a hands-on treatment for muscles, tendons and nerves that have become tight, stuck or irritated from overuse. Dr. Davis finds the tissue that isn't sliding the way it should, then applies precise pressure while you move through a specific motion.
Who it helps
Runners and cyclists with tight hamstrings, calves or hip flexors; swimmers and lifters with shoulder tightness; desk workers with neck and forearm tension; anyone with a nagging strain that keeps coming back.
What to expect
ART is usually part of a visit, combined with exercise so the change lasts. Many patients feel freer movement the same day.
Frequently asked questions
Does ART hurt?
It can feel intense for a few seconds in a sore area, and Dr. Davis adjusts the pressure to what you can tolerate.
